One of the largest trade
showcases of local (to London) producers takes place at New Covent Garden
Market on 1st October 2008. Local to London is a key trade event,
encouraging wholesalers, buyers and distributors based in and around London
to source more produce from the Eastern and South Eastern regions. The event
offers direct contact with the regions' best producers and growers,
samplings as well as master classes and demonstrations. The event follows
the highly successful 'Celebration of Local Food' held in February this
year, which secured contracts across London for producers.
The team
behind Local to London plans to attract key buyers from in and around London
with one of the largest local produce trade fairs in the Capital. The event
kicks off at New Covent Market at 7am with breakfast, followed by
opportunity to meet the producers, and see new and innovative ways of
cooking and serving a range of seasonal produce within the master classes
and demonstrations.
The event
is part of a three year project to get more local produce into the Capital,
and is timed to link in with the Great British Food Fortnight and the
Wholesaler Month involving all six wholesale markets in London through
October. Local to London has been initiated and supported by a partnership
that includes Tastes of Anglia, the South East Food Group Partnership, New
Covent Garden Market and London Development Agency.
"Local to
London follows the successful format of our February event" said Julie West,
Chief Executive of Tastes of Anglia. "It taps directly into the industry and
public conscience on using local, seasonal produce, offering buyers a unique
opportunity to discover and access directly the best of the local regions'
producers."
