Earlier this month East Anglia-based employment agency OSR Recruitment,
sent out an email advert for vacancies at Forza – the meat manufacturer
using temporary space at the Bernard Matthews factory in Great Witchingham,
just outside Norwich. Forza is a supplier to ASDA supermarket.
According to press reports, the advert was headed,
‘Immediate factory work available!!!! Ongoing factory work (meat
production) for 4-5 months, shifts are 7am-5pm or 9am-7pm. Transport
provided. Applicants must speak Polish. Please call asap!!!!!!’
The fact that the advert required applicants to speak Polish has led to
complaints but the company says that this must have been a mistake in
translation – it should have said “English not necessary”
